Kuala Kurau Trip

May 10, 2009 | Category: Trip

I was there for 3 days 2 nights with Carmen, Ooi Chen, Yen Ling and Choun Liang from 6th May to 8th May 2009.

Kuala Kurau is a rural area with one and only mini market. (Maybe there will be more in future?)
It is very near to Sungai Kuala Kurau (Kuala Kurau River) which connects to deep sea
(The river is quite near to deep sea. At the end of the river, it has junction which is the ways to Malacca and Penang).
Most of the villagers work as fisherman.
Most of them are Chinese.
They own a boat like we own a car.

First Day – 6th May 2009

I woke up, prepared and went out with my aunt for breakfast, with uncle.
Then they fetched me to meet up with Choun Liang aka driver of the trip.
Four of my friends haven’t breakfast yet, therefore I followed them for breakfast at Ipoh Old Town.
We began our journey at 10.05am.
We entered highway and exiedt at Taiping & Kamunting Exit.
We followed Parit Buntar signboard until we seen a signboard written Kuala Kurau.
At 11.30am, we finally reached Khai Ling’s home!
We received a warmth welcome from Khai Ling, her mom, grandma and nonetheless, her dad.
Her house is long and cooling…
Her grandma fried mihun for us as lunch and it taste good.
After bringing our luggage to room, Khai Ling brought us walk out to her old house which next to the Kuala Kurau River.

We played wooden block and UNO cards.
Till 3pm plus she brought us walk to have some local snacks.

We had rojak too. But busy eating till forgotten to take picture.
Their fruits are in stick, 40 cents per stick and dip them into the rojak sauce like how we ate luk luk.
But for hygiene purpose, Khai Ling requested the rojak sauce to be put in a plastic for us.
If you want extra spicy, they use cili padi instead of putting more belacan chili into the rojak sauce like normally others did in city.
Then we went to Khai Ling’s relatives place for fishing and then sit boat to look around.

We were supposed to go watch sunset on boat on deep sea. But due to bad weather, Khai Ling said is better to not go because of big waves.
So Khai Ling brought us to another place to view sunset. This time have to drive go.

Till night time, we walk to night market to buy ais bandut.
As for dinner, we ate seafood steamboat.
I hardly ever eat seafood… My mom even asked me to learn to eat them and each time I would object.
But there is exception for this trip. =D

Second Day – 7th May 2009

After we prepared ourselves in the morning, we went to Kedai Kopi Lee King for breakfast.
The soup
It called, ‘suan mei tang’ in mandarin.

Then we headed to Ferry Terminal to reach Penang Island.

First stop at Queensbay Mall.
We have our lunch at Kim Gary Restaurant.
There were a bunch of kids practice their gymnastic thingy there.

Next, went to Gurney Drive.

Third Day – 8th May 2009

Khai Ling brought us to eat ‘luan luan chao’ (simply fried) for breakfast.
Nothing much, but it mix everything and fried them.

Mihun + Mee + Kuey Teow + Salty Egg + Prawn + Vegetables + Egg + Fish Ball Meat (slices) + Chili

After that, rest in house a while then went to ‘Hua Seng Gong’ to visit “hell” and “heaven”.
We were advised by Khai Ling’s mom not to simply talk when visiting “hell”.
So the “hell” shows what sort of punishment we will get if we did incorrect during our lifetime.
Such as, cut your tongue (if you talk bad/gossip of others), bite from poisonous snake, korek your eyes (if you being action), got chopped, being cooked in a hot wok and etc etc.
Nothing much for the “heaven” part, just give a pray to God Jade.

Then we back to home and ate lunch, prepared by Khai Ling’s grandma.

Their curry is the best curry I ever had.
Curry Salty Fish.
The fish is no longer salty when you eat them.

Special thanks to Khai Ling and her family for their warmth caring during our time in Kuala Kurau.

Her dad went to work already… So he is not in the photo…
